1 Year Check-up – took Amelia to the Paediatrician
On Friday, 23 October 2009, we took Amelia for her 1-year check-up. I know that technically she’s already 14 months (Today!! ^_^ ), but with budget season and career ladders and assessments and audits, this was the best time I could find to take her.
Mind you, I did take her to the clinic when she turned one! She weighed a whopping 11kg. Her paediatrician says she is in excellent health. We are doing a great job. I was so happy I got all teary eyed. Not that I expected anything to be wrong, but your parenting skills are judged by the behaviour of your kids – it’s true, stop arguing.
But I still take my hats off to paeds and vets. How they can figure out what’s wrong with their patients is beyond me. I had to make Amelia stand against the wall to measure her height. Doc literally had a split second to eyeball her height. 70cm.
He asked her to go ‘aahh’ to look at her mouth – ghmff, please doc, just say ‘hap-hap’ she’ll open wide to try and eat the tongue depressor.
So the next step in raising our little rugrat, is to cure her eczema. Or at least keep it at bay. He prescribed some anti-histamine syrup and a topical lotion. If after a month there is no improvement, it’s off to the lab we go. She would have to have a few blood tests to see what she is possibly allergic to. It might be a food allergy or sensitivity. So I really hope that the first treatment works, cause I KNOW I won’t look forward to cutting out either dairy, soy, gluten, fish, wheat… chocolate… broccoli… I dunno, radishes even.
